The South Korean government announced on Monday that it is willing to provide disinfectants and preventative medicines to North Korea to help contain an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) recently declared to have broken out there.

A government official told reporters that Seoul had informed Pyongyang that it was willing to provide humanitarian and technical assistance to help contain the spread of the disease in North Korea.

“In our proposal today, we called for talks on an emergency shipment of vaccines and medical equipment to North Korea,” a South Korean unification ministry official told Agence France Press on Monday.
