Jang executed due to role in mineral and coal deals – NIS

“There had been friction building up among the agencies of power in North Korea"

Jang Song Thaek’s purge and execution were due to his wide-ranging involvement in North Korean business, South Korea’s intelligence chief said on Monday, contradicting previous accounts that said Jang’s downfall were due to a power struggle with his nephew Kim Jong Un.

Speaking to lawmakers, the director of the National Intelligence Services Nam Jae Joon said he suspected that Jang's execution was likely linked to lucrative mineral and coal deals with China.  He claimed that Jang’s rivals within the military had approached Kim Jong Un detailing the corrupt business practices of Jang and his aides.
