Following the dissolution of the U.N. Panel of Experts on North Korea last year, a coalition of U.S.-aligned countries formed a new team to monitor international sanctions on the DPRK’s weapons program, aiming to fill the gap in global enforcement efforts.

But if the first report released by the Multilateral Sanctions Monitoring Team (MSMT) last week is any indication, the new effort has a long way to go if it hopes to be a true replacement to the panel at a time of increasingly flagrant transgression of the sanctions regime.
