North Korea has conducted its first test of a new modular weapon system that can fire both ballistic missiles and rockets, a capability that poses new tactical challenges to adversaries in a conflict. 

State media announced the successful test from the modular transporter erector launcher (TEL) last week, as well as a separate test of a new tactical cruise missile from a separate launcher.

Pyongyang subsequently declared that its missile and artillery forces are now fully "automated, long-range and ultra-precise."
