Would-be re-defector Son Jong-hun never wanted to come to South Korea after escaping the North, he told NK News, and has been profoundly disappointed by what he has found in South Korean society.
Son suffers from potentially fatal hepatocirrhosis which he has not been able to properly treat due to the low pay he receives in non-profit work advocating on behalf of other defectors, and says his condition has been aggravated by stress encountered on the job. He has been told he may die within the next one-three years, and wants to see his family in the North.
