North Korea uses “multiple and tiered” techniques to evade sanctions

A report by a UN panel of experts has laid out some of the methods used by the DPRK to avoid sanctions

North Korea has developed "multiple and tiered circumvention techniques" to continue smuggling weapons and illicit material in and out of the country, a report by a United Nations panel of exports said on Monday.

The report concluded that the DPRK has paid little attention to UN sanctions prohibiting the import and export of military equipment and items necessary to further its nuclear programme. Instead, North Korea has devised increasingly sophisticated methods to hide its activities.
