North Korea delays major farmers’ meeting amid ‘food crisis,’ drought fears

State media says farmers in the country facing ‘unparalleled hardship and difficulties’

North Korea appears to have delayed its first major farmers’ congress in five years as the country faces mounting challenges from intense summer heat and what Kim Jong Un recently called an emergency “food crisis.”

State media first announced in April that the Ninth Congress of the Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea (UAWK) would be held in “early July,” but state-run outlets had yet to mention any news of the event taking place as of July 19.
