Kim Yo Jong demoted: Why the North Korean leader’s sister is down, but not out

Kim family members have been demoted in the past, only to resurface a few years later

The new roster of top officials in the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) leadership is surprising in many ways — especially when considering the ejection of Kim Jong Un’s sister, Kim Yo Jong, from the country’s top elite. Formerly an alternate member of the Politburo, she has not been reelected to the Politburo and was ranked number 20 on the Central Committee.
