US and South Korea call North Korea’s new ICBM a ‘significant threat’

Top defense officials from Seoul and Washington stressed the need to “dismantle” Pyongyang’s growing missile program

After North Korea flaunted its brand-new, massive intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) during its military parade last week, U.S. and South Korean heads of defense said that Pyongyang’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs pose a “significant threat” to international security.

The two countries issued a joint communiqué after they held the 52nd U.S.-ROK Security Consultative Meeting (SCM) in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, where top military and security officials such as U.S. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper and ROK Minister of National Defense Suh Wook participated.
