10 million North Koreans “urgently require” food assistance: UN report

Dry weather persisted throughout the first half of 2019, says WMO, despite Kim Jong Un's claim of a "bumper harvest"

A new UN report released this week said that 10 million North Koreans need urgent food assistance, citing climate-related challenges the country faced last year.

According to the World Meteorological Organization's (WMO) Statement on the State of the Global Climate in 2019, "dry weather persisted throughout the first half of 2019 in the country after two consecutive years of dry conditions and irregular weather patterns."
