State Department accused of “stonewalling” Congress on North Korea issue

Senior administration official will speak at Washington think tank, instead of testifying before Senate as planned

The U.S. Senate panel overseeing the State Department's East Asia agenda will hold a rare public hearing on the Trump administration's North Korea policy on Tuesday, but a senior official in charge of that policy has now backed out against the wishes of lawmakers, NK News has learned.

The official, deputy special representative for North Korea Alex Wong, had been expected to appear at the hearing on Tuesday to update Senators on the state of negotiations with Pyongyang, but his appearance was canceled after President Donald Trump nominated him for a new role at the UN earlier this month, according to multiple people with knowledge of the matter.
