Japanese police arrested the son of Chongryon’s chief

Ruling party of Japan present plan to strengthen sanctions against Pyongyang

Japanese police arrested three people including Ho Jeong Do, the son of Chongryon chief Ho Jong Man, on Tuesday morning in Tokyo in connection with smuggling charges.

Chongryon and its branch company face allegations of smuggling mushrooms in September 2010, an act prohibited under sanctions Japan enacted in 2006. The company, Toho, is alleged to have imported $25,000 worth of mushrooms, possibly to obtain foreign currency for the North Korean regime.
