North Korean assembly leader in Indonesia for Bandung Conference

Nominal head of state, rather than Kim Jong Un, travels to Jakarta despite prior rumors

North Korea’s nominal head of state Kim Yong Nam is in Indonesia to attend the Asian-African Conference, also known as the Bandung Conference, after departing the DPRK on Saturday.

The brief announcement of his trip, made by state media on Sunday, puts to bed prior speculation that Kim Jong Un would attend the event following reports that Jakarta had officially extended an invitation North Korea’s leader.
