U.S. wants talks on envoy to seek detainees’ release

North has accepted, then revoked previous invitations for envoy on prisoner release

The United States wants to talk with North Korea about he possibility of sending an envoy who would seek the release of three detained Americans.

The Washington-based Voice of America reported on the U.S. proposal Wednesday, quoting a source knowledgeable on U.S.-DPRK relations. The three detained Americans – Kenneth Bae, Jeffrey Fowle and Matthew Todd Miller – all appeared in a recent interview with CNN in which they pleaded with the U.S. government to work toward their freedom.
