North Korea launches projectile from east coast

Launch comes after Pyongyang nixes cheerleader squad's Asian Games visit

North Korea on Monday fired yet another projectile into the sea off of its east coast, South Korean Defense Ministry official said.

A ministry official told AFP that the projectile flew 220 kilometers (135 miles) before landing in the sea. The North has conducted a number of rocket launches this year, often in response to South Korean and/or U.S. military drills, but at times in response to events such as the summit between leaders of the United States, Japan and South Korea in March and even in July during negotiations with Tokyo over investigations into North Korea’s abduction of Japanese citizens in return for lessened sanctions.
