SEOUL – Kim Jong Un’s entourage of generals and high-ranking party members ––who often accompany the young leader on official visits–– has undergone a generation change from his father’s old guard to newer, fresher faces.
Analysts first speculated on a shift in Kim Jong Un’s power circle around a year ago, 6 months after the younger Kim inherited power from his father, the late Kim Jong Il. Kim Jong Un intended to purge members of his father’s “old guard”, analysts argued, and was attempting to reorganize an entourage centred around him and his people.
