NTI: N. Korea Worst in Nuclear Materials Security

North Korea came in last on the global nuclear material security index.The Nuclear Threat Initiative, a Washington-based nonprofit organization, says Pyeongyang ranked 32nd out of 32 nations that possess more than one-kilogram of weapons-grade nuclear materials.The secretive state’s refusal to allow foreign inspections, its unwillingess to participate in the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons Treaty, and its continuing political instability, were among the reasons cited.The criteria evaluated included, Quantities and Sites, Security and Control Measures, Global Norms, and Domestic Commitments and Capacity.Australia clinched the top spot, trailed by Hungary and the Czech Republic.Iran and Pakistan joined North Korea at…(Arirang)
